House of A Writer

Welcome to my blog where I share my special needs parenting journey with my heart, truth, and love, one story at a time. ❤️

Ten things of Thankful

I’m thankful but tired, I’m grateful but overwhelmed, I’m appreciative yet introspective. So I’ll roll it all into another quick post where  I’m plagued with insomnia and worry. One thing I’ve learned is there is always, always, something to be thankful for. I’m sharing today with my thankful hosts with Lizzi’s Ten Things of Thankful linkup

I’m thankful for a warm cozy bed, and the moonlight that keeps me company when I can’t sleep.

I’m thankful for spending the weekend with my family on a hockey road trip. There was laugher, excitement, outbursts, and even tears. But must of all there’s always so much love.

I’m thankful for naps when I’m exhausted and time to soak in my hot tub when I’m pent up with nervous energy.

I’m thankful for old friendships that stand the test of time, space, distance, mutual respect and love for one another.

I’m thankful for pain killers, heat packs, chiropractor visits and finally relaxing when I’m stressed.

I’m thankful for cuddles with my kids, the love of my husband, and wine and chocolate shared with great company.

I’m thankful for my love of the written word, being in love with books, and working on my novel daily.

I’m thankful for deadlines met, assignments conpleted, and discovering how I thrive under pressure.

I’m thankful for the love of music when it can lift me up to great heights when I feel my heart crashing to the earth with worry and strife.

I’m thankful for the gift of time to heal my wounds, patience to learn from my mistakes, and the love and my believe in myself to conquer my fears.

Awards and my forgetful mind

Some time ago I was nominated for the Liebster award from the lovely Living with Batman. I set to work with the questions put it in a draft post and promptly forgot about it; due to being sleep deprived and parenting my little ones. In that time I was nominated by Fabulously Fifty/Living with Batman New World Mom, nominated me too! So here it is two for the price of one answers to their questions of getting to know Jsack Mom better. Thank you so much for these lovely women wanting to make my day a little better. ?❤️

Answer the 11 questions asked by the person/blog who nominated you.

Nominate 11 blogs

Let the bloggers know that you nominated them.

Give them 11 questions to answer.

The all important Q&A

1. Without doing an internet search, what does “Ich liebe dich” mean? Best guess.
I do know what this means, without doing a internet search. It’s “I love you” in German. My cousin speaks it and he taught me this one sentence.

2. If you could meet one blogger, who would it be?

If I could meet one blogger I’d love to meet Punk Rock Papa. I’m in great communication with him and his lovely family a lot. But to meet them in the flesh would be the ultimate. The fun, laughter, and love for each other’s family’s would be so divine.

3. What non-electronic device could you not live without?

I couldn’t live without my book light I love to read late at night in the dark.

4.  What did you want to be when you grew up at age 10?

When I was 10 I wanted to be a model, it seems laughable to me now with me being so short! But I had my childhood best friend who’s cousin was a beautiful Canadian model and I idolized her Italian beauty.

5. What is your secret indulgence?

My secret indulgence is Pinot Grigio wine with strawberries. Now you know it isn’t a secret anymore. ?

6. What famous person has been in your dreams?

I have dreamt about Elvis Presley and Jim Morrison and having dinner with them. I ended up writing an English paper about it in high school.

7. Which super hero would you like to be?

I would love to be the X-men’s Jane/Phoenix. Being empathic I’ve felt like her on occasion except for the psychic rages and meltdowns she incurred from having to much power and not enough self control.

8. What age would you like to be frozen at forever?

I would rather not be frozen, but I’d go back in time to the age of 25. I look back on my own year being 25 and it was a really fun time in my life of self discovery, risk taking, and becoming comfortable in my own skin. I was old enough to know better and do better, and I wasn’t getting ID’ed anymore.

9. What model car best describes you?

The best model I would say is an SUV a Chevy Trail Blazer. Big enough to fit a family of four and tough enough to go off roading in the bush. I’m a family oriented woman who’s strong with a soft emotional centre.

10. Which period of time would you have liked to live in?

I would love to live in the Renaissance era. I would be friends with everyone from royalty to peasants, and wear beautiful clothes and be painted by the renaissance artists of the time. I would spend my time writing, creating art, and performing in plays and entertaining the public with my singing.

11. If you had to give up one sense, which one would it be?

I would give up my sense of smell. I love to see colours of the rainbow, feel textures of different fabrics, and objects. I love food,  almost all types that are neither to sweet or sour. Although I would miss the ability to smell a blossoming rose or lavender oil in my bath; I could still appreciate the effects of the aromatherapy.

Now onto the next set of questions from New World Mom.

1.Why did you start writing/blogging?

I started blogging because I needed a place to put all my thoughts. I filled many notebooks and journals with my feelings so why not put them out there to help make sense of them.

2. If you could meet anyone, alive or dead, who would it be?

I would love to meet the members of Fleetwood Mac and Pope Francis. Both for the same reasons too, all the love and inspiration I feel when I see them in their elements.

3. If you could play any sport professionally what would it be?

I would play volleyball professionally. I’m very short but I used to be a decent player back in high school.

4. What is your favourite quote?

My favourite quote is one I use everyday.

“Follow your bliss, and the universe will open doors where there were only walls.”

-Joseph Campbell

5. What is your favourite album (front to back) of all time?

My favourite album of all time is Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours. I listen to everyday it always inspires me.

6. Who is your biggest role model?

My biggest role model was my beloved Mama. I don’t even like saying that in a past tense although she flies with the angels. I still look to her in prayer for guidance.

7. What cheers you up?

Instantly hearing my children’s laughter. And sweet romantic gestures from my husband.

8. Do you believe in love at first sight?

I really do, I met my husband 30 years ago and he was the only one that gave me butterflies, rapid heartbeat, and giddy feelings of love.

9. What is the best compliment you have ever received?

I had a handwritten note delivered to me stating I was a babeasaurus. I was working at the time, and I literally floated all the rest of my shift.

10. Do you trust anyone with your life?

I do, and he’s always kept it very safe and protected from the uncertainties and cruelties of the world.

11. What is your favourite word?

My favourite word is SWEET!

Bunker Punk Tour

The very talented and creative h has come up with this amazing idea for the Bunker Punks (a group and wonderful blogger family that I’m proud to belong to) to get to know one another and share our Bunker Punk pride! There’s a list of questions that follows so here’s your getting to know Jsack Mom a little better.

What is your most prized possession?

At first I thought of my family, my husband and my children. Then I thought to myself I don’t possess them as much as they own my heart. So my answer is my memories, I was blessed to have my parents in my life loving and supporting me till I was in my 30’s. My dear Dad died in Feb. 2009 and my beloved Mama in Feb. 2011. 2 years and 2 weeks apart, not even death could break their bond. So to have them there on my wedding day walking me down the aisle towards my future, my love, is my most prized memory that I possess. ❤️

How do you unwind after a long day?

Well it takes me a long time for me to relax as I’m a night owl awake in the moonlight. With my son having a sleep disorder, I listen for him till I know he’s sound asleep then I can relax. After I put my kids to bed, I have some cuddle and chat time with my husband if he hasn’t fallen asleep. Then I catch up on my Facebook pages and I love to sit on my couch and write. It’s just me, my phone, pen and paper, and a glass of wine in the still of the night.

What is the one song that has followed you throughout your life?

This is an easy answer for me I love Fleetwood Mac and I’ve been listening to them since the late 80’s. I have much older siblings so I was raised on classic rock since I was a wee babe. The first time I heard Don’t Stop Believing I knew that incredible song was written for me. It has since become my theme song, and the whole Rumours album has entwined it’s way into my heart and soul. ??

Seeing them in concert in Nov.2014 was the hi-light of my year. ?

If there’s was one piece of advice you could give to new bloggers in your field, what would it be?

A very great question, I would say always write from your heart and read a lot of blogs beforehand, and when you do get a following interact with them. I’ve made the best friendships just from appreciating, responding, and thanking everyone who has come to read my story.

Now that you’re famous now we need a quote from you. I love this and thank you for saying so! Even if I’m just a legend….in my own mind. ?

I wrote this and I believe and live this passionately. ?

I’m the proud recipient of the Very Inspiring blogger award

Happy new year dear readers! As promised here is my follow up on on my nomination of the blogging award. The lovely Mary from has given me the honour. I love reading Mary’s blog she has a beautiful way of expressing the written word. So there was a list of questions I was to answer and answer them I did! I found the questions to be poignant and thought provoking. So thank you Mary for stretching my old grey matter.

Very Inspiring Blog questions

1.Why did you start your blog?

I started my blog as a creative outlet for myself. I have stacks of writing, journals, and poetry and when I was looking at it all, I thought I wonder if I could put this in a blog? It’s also a very cathartic form of therapy for me.

2. What is the book that you have read that has touched you the most?

Oh there’s so many to choose from as I’ve been an avid reader all my life. The one that stands out for me is The Boy Who Saw True. This was written by an extraordinary man who remained anonymous, and only allowed his diary to be published by his editor Cyril Scott after his death. He was a young clairvoyant as a child, and the book tells his story of his gift. A very fascinating read indeed! As I’m an empath I read this in my 20’s and I finally understood myself after years of searching for answers.

3. If you could eat dinner with a famous person who is still living, whom would you choose?

I would choose Pope Francis, he has set the world on fire with his way of thinking. Not just Catholics, but all walks of life. He has opened the doors of a Catholic Church that’s more accepting to homosexuality, divorced and remarried Catholics, and to common law couples that live together. His quote that he made last year “God is not afraid of new things. We are making every effort to adapt ways and methods … to the changing conditions of society,” he said. “If a person is gay and seeks God and has good will, who am I to judge them?” His mind, heart, and spirit fascinates me. And I believe he is the game changer that the world in crisis, has been needing.

4. Where is the one place you have visited that gives you complete calmness?

That place resides in my meditations when I find my quiet place listening to Deepak Chopra’s calming voice. A physical place would have to be in a beautiful forest walk in Fernie, BC, Canada in my hometown. I hear the rushing water of the Elk River and the kinetic energy it flows with, and I’m at home in my heart. Looking at the mountains moves me to tears and inspires me to write poetry.

5. Are you a bucket list person. If so name one thing on it?

I am a bucket list person and one thing I really want to do is travel to Ireland and Scotland. It’s the land of my ancestors birth and their voices call to me to walk in their footsteps. Celtic blood runs strong in my veins and I love hearing stories of Celtic folklore.

6. What is the goal for your blog?

I honestly just want it to read, shared, and understood. I’m planning on submitting my writing with other websites and freelancing into being paid. I also have book ideas or short novels that I’m going to dust off, edit, and shop around. It’s been my long term goal for awhile, but I’ve had some encouragement from some very wonderful people so I’m going for it!

7. What is a day well spent to you?

A beautiful day would be getting to sleep in, which doesn’t happen very often in my world! I would spend the morning reading and writing then have a fabulous breakfast that went right into lunch. Then I’d pack up a picnic lunch and spend the time exploring with my family. We’ve only been in our new town for six months so there’s lots of places to go adventuring. After that we’d have a fabulous dinner of Italian food, strawberry shortcake for dessert and board games fun until bedtime. I would put my sons to bed with stories, cuddles, and prayers, then I would fall asleep in my loves tender embrace counting our blessings.

8. How do you start your day?

I wake up between 6:30-7:00 am and get my kids ready for school. We have a healthy breakfast, get dressed, and walk to school. After we drop off my oldest than we come back home have some play time and then some reading. We might go off to play group, run errands around town, or go for a walk. Lunch time rolls around and I get some laundry done, and then it’s school pick up time. We love that walk as the sun shines and my kids tell me wonderful things about their day. Play time, quiet time, dinner time, and homework time occupy the evening and then it’s bedtime. If there’s hockey, meetings, or theatre practice than those are all included in the evenings plans.

9. What is your favourite holiday and why?

My favourite holiday is the one that just passed Christmas. I love all the magic that little children are wrapped in when Santa and his elves are busy working away to fulfill their wishes. I love to keep Christ in Christmas as well. If we’re staying home I would make a cake with my kids to celebrate Jesus’ birthday. Every year on Christmas Eve my Mom would read my sister and I the story of baby Jesus’ birth. This is a sacred tradition I carry on today with my own children. I used to attend midnight mass as well as a child, and the joyful memories I have of that are so precious to me.

10. Are you where you want to be professionally and if not, what will you do about it?

I love what I’m doing now with my transcription work. I’m planning on writing more about that soon, as the project I’m helping with is so dear to my heart. Before I had my second child I was teaching prenatal fitness and that encompassed a seventeen year journey of my fitness career. I would love to get back into teaching in some degree. I would need to update my certifications since they have lapsed. As for now I’ll see where my writing adventures will take me.

11. What is your favourite quote?

I love Maya Angelou as a poet and Joseph Campbell as an author. So I have to use them both as my favourites. These both resonate with me.

“I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”

-Mayou Angelou

“Live your bliss for the universe will open doors, where there were only walls.

-Joseph Campbell

Now it’s time to nominate the bloggers that have inspired me. Drumroll please….

1. The Brain

I was fortunate enough to guest blog for the beautiful Brain back in October for her Cherish the Moments topic. It was my first time seeing my words on another blog page without being reblogged. I’m still so thrilled and grateful to have that honour. She writes from her heart and her brain is overflowing with wisdom and creativity. Please check out her blog, and both of her Facebook pages that I’m happy to co-admin with her on called the Smell of Books.

2. Sweet pea 2 love

This lovely woman has offered me such encouragement and kindness with my life and my writing, I’m so very grateful. When she pops in to read my blog and connect in her loving caring way my heart just soars. A very talented writer who’s fiction made me feel so connected with my beloved Mama. Follow along on her journey you won’t be disappointed.

3. The Heart of Sassy Lassie

This lovely Lassie is new to the blogging world and has a Facebook page as well dedicated to her Scottish heritage and providing entertainment. I’ve gotten to know this lovely lassie through her beautiful writing of her heart rendering blog. I look forward to each time she posts and what topic she wants to discuss with her flair and care of the written word.

4. Loorducation

I’ve been blessed with meeting this incredible Dynamo of a woman. I had the pleasure of being a guest blog spot for her last week. Stay tuned as she will be guest blogging for me soon. She has a Bachelor of Sciences in child studies, majoring in Early Childhood Education and a Masters of Education with a concentration in teaching and learning. I would love for her to be my son’s teacher. As I can feel the love she has for her craft. I love her passion for all things education, creativity, inspiration, and children. She has an amazing blog and Facebook page that’s centred on the power of early childhood education with peace, love, and education, being the focus. While sharing the journey of autism in her family, and the gift that is her son.

5. CS Mommy

I discovered CS Mommy in a blogging group that we belong to and we clicked and became fast friends. She’s primarily a food and beverage blogger but also writes about topics that are important to her. She captured my heart when I read her view on the outcome of controversial shooting that took the world by storm. She’s fun, funny, and a creative genius in the kitchen. Her 25 Holly days posts kept me full and entertained throughout the Christmas season. Be sure to check out her blog and click that Top Mommy Blogger button to raise her up the ranks.

Well that’s my list of nominations, now they have the choice to accept and follow up with answers to the excellent questions which I’ve borrowed from Mary and her nominator Shelby. Or if you wish to just accept my nomination with a tip of the hat thank you, you can do so as well. Happy new year to these fantastic bloggers and to all my dear readers who light up my life and heart with your kindness. ❤️
